GEORGE CONDO

George Condo, an American artist born in 1957, is celebrated for merging classical and modern artistic styles. Hailing from New Hampshire and educated at the University of Massachusetts, he later moved to New York City to further his artistic career.

In the 1980s, Condo started as a painter, working with renowned artists like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Initially inspired by Cubism and Surrealism, he quickly evolved his own distinctive approach, termed “Artificial Realism.” His art characteristically features altered and disjointed human forms, through which he delves into themes like identity, life’s transience, and the human psyche.

Condo is also recognized for his collaborations with musicians, creating album artwork and stage designs for notable figures such as Kanye West and Pharell Williams. His creations have been showcased in leading art institutions, including New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and Paris’ Centre Pompidou. In recognition of his influential work, he received the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts in 2011.

Despite his acclaim, Condo remains devoted to exploring new artistic avenues, continually redefining conventional art. His enduring commitment to innovation not only challenges viewers but also solidifies his status as a pivotal figure in contemporary art.
